Having started out as a career-advice youtube vlog by Cardiff-based recruiter-turned-entrepreneur, Aimee Bateman, Careercake quickly amassed a healthy following of those looking to secure new employment and advance their career. Soon enough, Aimee realised that whilst shooting video content in her kitchen had a certain charm and authenticity, something more professional was needed.
When Careercake approached us, they had already established a structure in terms of content for their e-learning courses. What they needed from us was two-fold: to make their films look good and keep them consistent across a series. Challenge accepted.
Lewis, our in-house Cinematographer, worked on establishing a visual aesthetic for the courses, and a way in which this could be kept consistent from week to week. The simplest and most effective way to do this was to shoot in a studio, with a consistent lighting plan, designed in a bespoke style for Careercake. Using on-set monitoring tools, we were able to ensure near exact replication for each course.
Meanwhile, our post-production crew went to work on developing a workflow pipeline for speedy course edits, including a whole raft of new templates, designed from the ground up using Careercake’s existing brand assets. Thanks to the fluidity of our post-production process, like a greased weasel down a drainpipe, we were able to steam through dozens of courses in a matter of weeks.
To date, we’ve overseen nearly two years of Careercake’s progression, which has recently involved an entire re-brand, resulting in all 72 existing videos having their titles and animations replaced. Our team have continued to work side by side with Aimee and the gang to ensure the production value of their films has never slipped.
