A short approachable film to tell the story of the relatable, caring and empathic staff at Open University Support

The Open University understands that uni life can be a challenging experience for students for a whole raft of reasons. As much as being a student can be an enjoyable experience, there are hiccups from time to time and people can find themselves in the position of needing some assistance for a wide range of ailments.

That’s where the Student Support Team comes in.

The Open University needed some support themselves and approached us with the task of creating a film that would tell the story of the Support Team and help educate and attract students to the service if they needed it.

That’s where we come in.

The approach

The ultimate goal for the film was to reflect authenticity. When times get tough, it’s vitally important that students can speak to someone who not only understands their predicament and can offer advice, but who genuinely cares and empathises with them.

We, therefore, wanted to make that our key focus, as we wanted to tell the story of the relatable, caring and empathic staff who are hired by the Open University to give support to students when they need it most.

Keeping things light, bright and approachable, the film shows the whole roster of the support team working in the office but focuses on the story of one team member in particular — Kyle.

Kyle is a student of the OU himself as well as team manager in the Support Team, so he was able to provide a perspective from both sides of the service and give a more personal, relatable account that students could emotionally connect with.

At the end of the video, we wrapped it all together with the relevant information students would need if they wanted to get in contact with the Support Team in the future. Job Done.
